It was in 1939 when Maria Rubiol, heiress of the house, together with her husband Antonio Salvans, started the bar and grocery in what was then the river embankment, now the Avenue of the Earls of Pallars. The Pey Bar and Grocery was the stopping point for coaches, where good coffee could be drank and fine cheeses and sausages from the county were tasted and sold. The opening of the establishment was seen quite sceptically because then all the trades were located on the Main Street. Today Bar Pey is still working and the avenue is full of shops and trades.

The couple’s youngest son opened, in 1987, the Aparthotel Pey on the Avenue of Montserrat, even nearer to the new canalized river La Pallaresa Noguera, which happened at the same time as the opening of the ski resort of Port-Ainé.
